Description

The primary aim of education in the Specialty of Rhythmics is obtaining qualifications to conduct classes using Emile Jaques-Dalcroze’s method.

Graduates in the Specialty of Rhythmics have a teaching qualification according to the Order of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 25 July 2019 on the standards of education in preparation for the teaching profession.

Graduates of second cycle studies obtain an MA title (magister). They have a teaching qualification to conduct classes using Emile Jaques-Dalcroze’s method at all levels of music education as well as at higher education institutions offering teachers’ education, such as: universities, higher pedagogic schools, or physical education academies. They can also conduct classes at higher theatre and film schools as well as vocal and acting schools. Graduates in this specialty are also employed as ballet class accompanists.

Admission rules

The enrolment procedure is competitive and its results are public.

Tests

  • rhythmics – sending two audio-video recordings
  • piano improvisation with elements of ear training – sending 5 audio-video recordings
  • interview – online (using the ZOOM app)

Scope of material

  • rhythmics

A candidate will receive (via the IRK system) the programme of the exam with tasks to perform. A candidate should make a video recording of the exercises he/she performs and send two files to the internet platform indicated by the University:

file 1: a video recording of a solo movement interpretation of a piece performed by a candidate (1-4 minutes)

file 2: a video recording on which a candidate performs a music-movement exercise: 4-bar rhythm with eighth-note complement performed by the hands-legs duet (details of the tasks will be uploaded on the FCUM website, tab: Enrolment before 12.00 on the day preceding the date of exam).

  • piano improvisation with elements of ear training:
    • polyphonising improvisation in e key of free choice (duration: approx. 1-2 minutes),
    • improvisation to a metrorhythmic task (selected by a candidate) from the area of rhythmics teaching methodics for Years 1-3 of primary music school: chain of renderings, double speed, rhythmic complement (duration: approx. 1-2 minutes)
    • free piano improvisation on a given topic (details of the tasks will be uploaded on the FCUM website, tab: Enrolment), duration: no more than 2 minutes
  • interview:
    • motivation of choice of the major of studies,
    • knowledge about E. Jaques-Dalcroze’s method,
    • presentation of a way of introducing a metric and rhythmical problem chosen by a candidate.
