The Department of Sound Engineering offers education for sound engineers at two-cycle intramural studies.

Second cycle (MA) studies tasts 2 years (4 semesters). Candidates select one of three Specialties: Music Production, Sound Engineering in Film and TV, or Sound Engineering in the Multimedia. Candidates may apply for more than one Specialties but they must indicate a preferred Specialty.

The Specialty of Music Production develops music recording–making skills, both “live” ones and studio recordings (of classical, jazz and the so-called “light” music). The Specialty of Sound Engineering in Film and TV develops film sound-creating skills of. The “Multimedia” Specialty develops the skills of sound-creating for audiovisual forms and the so-called “sound design” (generally understood sound creation). The education is complemented with the knowledge of humanities, mainly from the fields of aesthetics of art, music, film and recording.

This stage ends with an MA examination, which consists of a presentation of artistic work relevant for the Specialty and a written MA thesis.

Admission rules

The enrolment procedure is competitive and its results are public.

Scope of material

  • interview concerning sound engineering in audiovisual forms (organised in a form of a video conference connection by the FCUM), during which the committee with discuss with a candidate his/her original sound made to:
  1. an artistic audiovisual form (e.g. a cartoon, an experimental film, a film study, video-art – installation of architectonic space or other public space). The work should include creational sound elements,
  2. fragment of a feature film with dialogues

Both works should be should be sent by candidates to the given address of the server* until 20 June 2020 as audio stereo or LCR files with synchronous video files in the Quicktime with codec DNxHD or in the MP4 format and additionally both final Pro Tools sessions without audio and video dvPAL files.

  • knowledge and skills test from the material of first cycle studies for the Major of Sound Engineering (organised in a form of a video conference connection by the FCUM on the day preceding major tests)only for candidates without a diploma obtained at this Major at the FCUM or Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz; positive result of the test will be the basis for being  admitted to the interview.

After the closing of the list of candidates for MA studies, there will be access accounts on the server prepared for each candidate, where they will place their materials. In the disc share MGR_WSTEPNE of the server, name folders for candidates for MA studies will be prepared. In their name catalogue, candidates shall be obliged to create separate folders: FILM, PHONOGRAPHY, MULTIMEDIA (for selected specialties a candidate intends to apply for) and submit relevant materials in them.
